A sixteen-measure phrase follows a two-measure introduction. The phrase divides into three irregular sub phrases.
The first one is eighth-measure long and only uses tonic harmony. Note the use of the seventh (C, measure 5) and the major ninth (E, measure 9) over the tonic chord:
The second sub phrase in F major (relative major key) is sixth-measure long:
The third sub phrase in A minor (dominant key) is four-measure long:
The first phrase from measures 3 to 19 is repeated in measure 21 transposed a descending fourth. It uses the A minor, C major and E minor keys.
